From May 18 to 25, 2024, the “Corrosion and Protection Training for Refining and Petrochemical Facilities & Professional Technical Qualification Certification Program for Corrosion and Protection Engineers,” jointly organized by the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection and Shenyang Zhongke Weier Corrosion Control Technology Co., Ltd., was held as scheduled at the Shenyang International Trade Hotel and concluded successfully.
This corrosion protection professional qualification training program focuses on corrosion control within refining and chemical production processes. The training covers a wide range of topics, including fundamental corrosion theory, the development of corrosion processes and corrosion loops, identification of damage in petrochemical equipment, non‑destructive testing of small nozzles and pipelines, coatings and painting techniques, as well as cathodic protection for underground pipeline networks. The theme of this training initiative helps strengthen the theoretical foundation and technical expertise of existing personnel, while also fostering the development of high‑quality, specialized professionals in corrosion protection for petroleum refining and chemical enterprises.
Trainees from petrochemical enterprises such as Yangzi Petrochemical, Taizhou Petrochemical, Jingbo Petrochemical, and Panjin Haoye Chemical participated in this technical training and professional qualification certification exam.
Ms. Zhang Xiaohong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection, attended the opening ceremony in Shenyang and delivered a speech. Teacher Zhang Xiaohong led the participants in reviewing the development of China’s corrosion protection field—from fundamental science to industrial applications—highlighted the impact and challenges posed by equipment corrosion in the petrochemical sector on safe production, and concluded by setting expectations and offering her hopes for all the trainees.
Ms. Zheng Liqun, Chairperson of Shenyang Zhongke Weier Corrosion Control Technology Co., Ltd., was invited to attend the training program and extended her sincere welcome and best wishes to all the participants for their visit to Shenyang.
The faculty for this training program is composed of professors from Beijing University of Science and Technology and Beijing University of Chemical Technology, equipment experts from Sinopec, and young experts at Zhongke Weier who boast extensive practical experience. After a full week of studying a series of courses, the participants gained a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of corrosion, mastered methods for mapping out corrosion processes in petroleum refining and chemical processing units, and acquired expertise in corrosion problem identification and assessment, as well as in prevention and remediation strategies. Participants unanimously agreed that the week-long training had been incredibly beneficial.
On May 25, in accordance with the standardized work requirements of the Corrosion Society, teachers Zhu Lijian and Yang Jike of the Society organized and proctored the professional technical qualification certification exam, bringing this training to a perfect conclusion.
The successful organization of the training session not only underscores the China Society for Corrosion and Protection’s and Zhongke Weier’s commitment to advancing industry technology, but also highlights their proactive role in fostering a strong pool of professional talent. We hope that the participants will be able to effectively translate their newly acquired knowledge into practical solutions in their daily work, thereby contributing to corrosion and protection efforts within China’s petroleum refining and chemical processing industry.
The training session was chaired by Ms. Hu Lihong, Executive Vice President of Zhongke Weier Company, which provided the necessary logistical support to ensure the successful completion of the program.
